St. Louis Blues fans have been waiting for this for a very long time. Defenseman Adam Jiricek has officially etched his name into the record books with a goal beside his name.

In the 7-2 bludgeoning of the Ottawa Senators, Jiricek was one of the many players to get a goal. His rookie campaign is going off without a hitch, and is even causing some stirs amongst Blues fans on what to do with Logan Mailloux when he gets back from the Injured Reserve.

First of many

Jiricek scored the first of hopefully many, many goals as a Blue. This thing was a solid shot, which breathes life into the future of the Blues' blue line.

He has been fast tracked, a lot faster than expected, to the NHL. If not for the injuries to Mailloux and Tyler Tucker, this ascension would not be seen for another couple of months.

No. 36 has been smart with the puck, creating chances, and has settled in quickly to first-pair minutes with Philip Broberg. Expect the rookie to get a few more of these types of goals before the season is done. According to NHL EDGE, Jiricek's 12 shots on goal so far this season are in the 90th percentile for all defensemen in the NHL.

Not bad, kid.

What to do when Mailloux comes back?

Now comes the hard part. What to do with Jiricek when Mailloux is healthy?

Mailloux’s expendability has been showcased with the emergence of Jiricek, and it seems like there are now too many solid pieces on the blue line. Jiricek can be sent to the third pair, or Mailloux can. Jiricek can be traded, or Mailloux can. Either way, there might not be enough room to keep both of them, as there is still Colton Parayko and Brandon Carlo on the payroll for the right side of the defense.

Of course, Carlo is only under contract for the rest of this season, but his impact has been positive thus far. That is an option as well.

For the next few weeks whilst Mailloux is out, let us all enjoy what Jiricek can bring to the table.

Immediate impact is the start of his Blues legacy

In the future, we will all be looking back on this fiery start from Jiricek as being the beginning of his Blues legacy. There is a very real possibility that he can be a long-tenured player for this franchise, similar to Colton Parayko and his longevity on the blue line.

Jiricek has all the tools and skills to be an important part of the future for the Blues, and we are witnessing it in real time. That first goal against Ottawa the other night is only the start.
