Buckle up, because you're about to hear different takes on Jordan Kyrou trade rumors all summer long. From now until early September when teams report for camp, those rumors will persist. But don't worry, because time has a funny way of speeding up as it keeps slipping on. And if Kyrou's still in town by September 1st, he'll probably stay with the St. Louis Blues.
Anyway, Matt Barry of Inside the Rink speculated on this, and it makes a ton of sense when you think about it, even if the Bruins are cash-strapped. Still, Barry talked about this, saying, "With just around $3 million in cap space after many offseason transactions, the Bruins would have to move a contract or two off the roster to make the money work."
He mentioned Casey Mittelstadt, Pavel Zacha, Matt Poitras, and Mason Lohrei as potential targets for the Blues should this trade occur. While Kyrou's a big part of the Blues offense, players like Jimmy Snuggerud and Dalibor Dvorsky may have higher ceilings, and players like Mittelstadt and Zacha would be on my shortlist since they've both proven they can play in this league.
The trade would make sense for the Blues, Bruins, and Jordan Kyrou
The Bruins would get another star-caliber player in Kyrou and the Blues finally moved Kyrou's contract in this scenario. But, the burning question is: Would Kyrou waive his no-trade clause to join Boston?
As the headline of this piece suggests, the answer is an ever-resoundng 'yes.' A trade like this could transform the Bruins into a scary hockey team again, with Kyrou likely teaming up with the great David Pastrnak.
That tandem would immediately rejuvenate a fan base that saw its team tank during the latter part of 2024-25 when it became clear they weren't making the playoffs. Kyrou would know this, but his presence in Boston would cause mismatches and nightmares for opponents.
Right now, teams know they only need to worry about one big-time offensive powerhouse in Pastrnak. Add Kyrou to the equation, and you got double trouble.
The Blues would lose a big-time asset on offense, but would make up for it in numbers
Trading Kyrou would also guarantee a spot for Snuggerud and Dvorsky, and, assuming the trade would bring Casey Mittelstadt and Pavel Zacha to town, they'd have deeper depth than a season ago. Mittelstadt is excellent in the middle-six, and Zacha has top-six potential. Add Snuggerud and Dvorsky, plus the recently-signed Pius Suter, and you got five new full-time forwards.
Overall, it's a situation the Blues just can't lose out on, and it could bring much-needed chemistry back to Boston. And knowing Doug Armstrong, he's never afraid to make these big trades, especially if it meant bringing in solid talent to supplement the youngster.
While there are several good fits out there for Kyrou, this one I'd be all for. Now, let's see if Armstrong and Don Sweeney have a few conversations in the coming weeks.
