St. Louis Blues defenseman Logan Mailloux opened up about his feelings regarding the unexpected trade from Montreal this offseason.

In an exclusive interview with Marco D’Amico of RG Media published on July 16, Mailloux made his feelings known about how he experienced the trade from the Canadiens to the Blues.

Mailloux stated the following:

"It was just a regular day. I did my workout and went to see a couple of my buddies. When I was there, I got a call from my agent saying I was going to get traded today. He didn’t know to which team, but he said it was going to happen."

Later on, Logan Mailloux found out he was heading to the St. Louis Blues.

The chatter throughout the summer had been about the Canadiens working on a trade that would send forward Jordan Kyrou to Montreal. Those talks fizzled out, and the discussion shifted to Mailloux.

The former first-round pick from 2021 ended up in St. Louis in exchange for forward Zack Bolduc. The trade was a win-win for both teams. The Canadiens were looking for depth down the middle while the Blues were looking to bolster their blue line.

Now, Mailloux has a unique opportunity to become a major contributor in St. Louis. Daily Faceoff projects Logan Mailloux rounding out the Blues’ bottom defense pair with Tyler Tucker. The 22-year-old could be on the rise as the Blues look to clinch another playoff berth this upcoming season.

Since being drafted in 2021, Logan Mailloux spent time going through the Montreal Canadiens system, honing his game before landing in the NHL.

In particular, Mailloux made it clear that he got the opportunity to play consistently in the American Hockey League with the Laval Rocket. That experience was crucial as he had missed considerable playing time due to injury in his final year in Junior Hockey.

Mailloux had this to say about his experience in the Canadiens’ system:

"They do a great job having the developmental staff come into Laval as well and work with us and watching games and stuff. And I think getting those reps in was big for me."

That consistency led to an opportunity with the big club. Mailloux played seven regular-season games for the Canadiens in 2024-25. He registered two goals and two assists for four points. While he did not factor into the Canadiens’ playoff lineup, Mailloux was penciled in as a roster player this upcoming season.

That roster spot will be in St. Louis instead of Montreal. For the Blues, the ceiling on Mailloux is high. There’s plenty of room to grow in what looks to be one of the most exciting teams in the Western Conference.
