After five games with the St. Louis Blues, 28-year-old Matt Luff was sent back down to Springfield. General Manager Doug Armstrong announced the move this morning, and it could have some more meat and potatoes to it then that.

Luff had a goal in those five games with the Blues, and contributed five shots on goal. He averaged 9:01 of ice time during these games, and for what it is worth, they were pretty solid performances. Not much to write home about, but not terrible either.

He is a journeyman, who has floated across the line of the AHL and NHL for the entirety of his six-year NHL career. He will undoubtedly be back, whether for injury, or whenever Otto Stenberg's trial runs out, if it does.

Key piece coming back?

If Otto Stenberg and Jonatan Berggren are still in the Blues lineup, that still leaves Robby Fabbri and Matthew Kessel as healthy scratches right now. That could mean that one of the injured forwards who have been out might be healthy enough to potentially come back in.

The closest to game action is Nick Bjugstad, who was listed as day-to-day when he got hurt during the game against the Boston Bruins on December 9. This could be the move to transfer Bjugstad back into the lineup.

If not, Luff's demotion is just a sign of Fabbri coming back in.
