Nick Bjugstad set to miss a few days due to injury

Who will skate for this team? Could it be...you??

Talk about a season where nothing goes your way. The St. Louis Blues are hovering around the bottom of the standings for a number of reasons, from poor goaltending, underperforming stars, and an aging core of players--especially on the backend. Now, we can add injuries to that list.

Four players on the St. Louis Blues roster are on Injured Reserve: Jordan Kyrou, Alexei Toropchenko, Nathan Walker, and Jimmy Snuggerud. Now, Nick Bjugstad's set to be out, too.

When it rains it pours, hey?

The good news is that whatever is ailing Bjugstad seems to be short term. The cause of the injury appears to be a hit from Boston Bruins defenseman Nikita Zadorov, who caught Bjugstad up high. Bjugstad finished off that shift, but did not return to the game after leaving the ice. Through 25 games in his first season with the Blues, Bjugstad has four goals and an assist for five points.

While his offensive impact hasn't been great (only slightly below his production last year with the Utah Mammoth), Bjugstad has provided a steadying presence in the Blues lineup. He's at 52.1% in the faceoff dot, the first time he's been over 50 percent since the 2021-22 season.

The Blues can't well afford losing Bjugstad long term, given how many other injuries have afflicted the forward group. As a result, GM Doug Armstrong has made a couple of signings this week, including bringing back Stanley Cup Champion Robby Fabbri, among others. Once healthy, Bjugstad will likely be the Blues' third- or fourth-line center.
