2024 St. Louis Blues Draft Profile: Lukas Fischer
The Blues have drafted the son of ex-NHL defenseman Jiri Fischer.
With the 56th overall pick, the St. Louis Blues selected Lukas Fischer, their third defenseman of the draft. The big defenseman is one of the youngest players in this draft, being only a week away from being eligible for next year's draft.
Fischer's style of play has been described as that of a big, powerful defenseman. When on the ice, Fischer covers a lot of ground, not only with his size but also with his speed and smooth skating. He has also shown offensive potential, recording 34 points in 68 games this season in the OHL. Additionally, scouts have noted his strong positional play and ability to make effective breakout passes, further enhancing his value as a well-rounded defenseman. (Eliteprospect)
Fischer will most likely return this season to the Sarnia Sting, where he will be able to continue his development. With his promising skill set and size, the Blues hope he could become a mainstay in their top four for years to come, potentially developing into a cornerstone of their defensive core.
St. Louis Blues: Planning for the future
Note: This pick wasn’t originally the Blues' second-round pick; it was Toronto's second-round pick, which the Blues received in the Ryan O’Reilly trade on February 17, 2023. That selection was the last pick the Blues received and have not yet had the chance to utilize it. For the curious, the final tally of what the Blues received for Ryan O'Reilly was Adam Gaudette, Mikhail Abramov, a 1st-round pick in 2023 (Otto Stenberg), a 3rd-round pick in 2023 (Juraj Pekarcik), and a 2nd-round pick in 2024 (Lukas Fischer).
