There are a number of fantastic blue liners to help the St. Louis Blues over their long-standing history. But there are only three that stand out as the best of the best.
Some of these defensman were direct helpers for some of the best goaltenders in franchise history.
Let's talk about who and rank them.
3. Chris Pronger
Chris Pronger was a generational talent in his time with the Blues, and it is still nice to see his presence with the pre-game telecasts of Blues games. With 84 goals and 272 assists for 356 points, he sits in third place for all of those categories.
Pronger was an aggressive force during the late 1990s and early 2000s. He was everything that lined up with being a Blue, and his standing on the blueline was remarkable.
2. Alex Pietrangelo
The captain who brought the Stanley Cup to St. Louis. Alex Pietrangelo was a fantastic defenseman for the Blues in his 758 games played with the club. He has the second-most goals for a d-man with 109 and the most assists in franchise history from the blue line with 341.
Pietrangelo was a fan-favorite in his 12-year tenure, and when he moved on to Vegas, it was a sad day for Blues fans. There is a serious case to make for hanging his No. 27 in the rafters of the Enterprise Center.
1. Al MacInnis
The best defenseman in franchise history is none other than the great Al MacInnis. It is crazy to think that he could actually be the best defenseman of two franchises, alongside the Calgary Flames.
MacInnis came to the Blues for the last decade of his career and was incredible during the same time period as Pronger. In 613 games, he scored 127 goals and added 325 assists. For a defenseman, no one has scored more than his 452 points, but Colton Parayko is approaching that mark as he currently has 313.
