For St. Louis Blues fans who remember how the 2018-19 season began, they would have never thought that it would end with a Stanley Cup. Through the first 39 games of the season, the Blues were 16-19-4.
However, one song from the 1980s seemed to have some magical power that season that helped propel the Blues all the way to the top of the NHL and ended with them lifting the Stanley Cup.
It started at the beginning of January that season, when some players were out in Philadelphia, and the bar they were at kept playing the song 'Gloria' by Laura Branigan. During that night, the Blues, as described by Joel Edmundson, decided they needed a song after their wins, and that Gloria would be that song.
It worked almost immediately for the Blues as Jordan Binnington would stop all 25 shots and the Blues would record a 3-0 win on the road over the Flyers.
St. Louis Blues needed all the help they could get during their playoff run that season
The Blues were certainly tested during their playoff run that season, as each series went either six or seven games. However, the power of Gloria helped them, and with series wins over the Winnipeg Jets, Dallas Stars, San Jose Sharks, and then the Boston Bruins, they would secure the first-ever Stanley Cup in franchise history.
The most exciting game by far was Game 7 against the Dallas Stars when it went to double overtime. In that game, it was a fast start as the Blues scored first with a goal by Vince Dunn before Mats Zuccarello answered less than three minutes later to tie it up.
There would be no other goals in this game until that second overtime when Pat Maroon beat Ben Bishop to send the Blues to the Western Conference Finals, and it was probably the best 'Gloria' moment for the Blues since they won the Stanley Cup on the road in Boston.
