The Blues have recalled Mackenzie MacEachern from the AHL, the team announced today. MacEachern hasn't played a game with the Blues since December 2023. MacEachern has some experience in the NHL, but he's mostly been a guy that has gone up and down with the Blues throughout his career.
What MacEachern can bring to the Blues lineup
While MacEachern doesn't bring a lot of offense, he does play the game the right way and plays with physicality. He's one of the few Craig Berube-style players left from the past. I don't know what the Blues see in MacEachern at this point in his career other than to be an extra forward or be inserted into the lineup and beef up the bottom six.
MacEachern has been a solid contributor for Springfield this season. He had ten goals, 15 assists, and 25 points in 47 games played. He's smart defensively as well. I like to think of him as a watered-down version of Nathan Walker.
Experience is always a good thing
MacEachern was drafted by the Blues, so he knows what the organization expects of him. He's one of those players that is willing to go into a game anytime, play in any position, and fill out any role he can for the Blues.
As mentioned above, he doesn't provide a lot of offense, but he doesn't need to. He's very smart on the defensive end of the puck, which is very important. Ideally, you don't want him to play anywhere above the fourth line.
I've always liked MacEachern for the reasons listed above. The Blues could use more guys like him in the locker room. He's definitely a character guy, but him and Nathan Walker would make a good leadership duo. We'll hope the Blues can close it out strong tomorrow against Florida.
