The Blues might have supplemented the Montreal Canadiens playoff hopes and dreams

The St. Louis Blues were able to finally gain their 10th win of the 2025-26 season, improving to 10-12-7 on the year for 27 points. Over the offseason, and then again during the beginning part of the regular season, they made a number of moves that now look very questionable.

So questionable in fact, that it might have given an Eastern Conference team a glimmer of hope for a playoff push this season.

Lets talk about it.

Ex-Blues are proving themselves in Montreal

Winger Zack Bolduc was traded this offseason for defenseman Logan Mailloux to cover one of the gaping holes in the Blues blueline. Then, Alexandre Texier had a bit of a drama-filled segment in which he was assigned to Springfield, then placed on waivers, and then had his contract terminated by the Blues before signing with Montreal.

Bolduc has been a steady figure for Montreal, scoring six goals and adding six assists for 12 points. That would be one of the higher-tier point totals for the Blues this season.

And then comes the curious case of Texier, who is playing to not only provide his new team with a fresh spark of energy, but to keep his own Olympic dreams alive for Team France. Texier has two assists in five games played with the Canadiens, and then did this filthy move in the shootout against Toronto on Saturday night.

The Blues have to figure it out with what they have

The Canadiens have a solid team, and their record of 15-9-3 reflects that. The Blues have a bigger hill to climb, and the goal of a playoff appearance seems to be slipping ever so further away. They are not completely out of it, but there is a sense that every game is likely to be a loss due to the fact that their is so many uncertainties in their game. And that goes for forwards, defensemen and goalies.

It is nice to know that these ex-Blues are really helping their new squad, but the sting of letting them go for this underwhelming team hurts. The Blues have to hope that they did not play themselves with these two players, especially if they both turn it up a notch and take Montreal far.
