The St. Louis Blues made a bunch of moves this offseason in hopes that this new direction corrects alot of the old mistakes. Offloading some of those contracts that were completely stuck due to No-Trade Clauses was a priority, and former General Manager Doug Armstrong got it done.
One of those moves was getting rid of Jordan Kyrou, and they got back Connor McMichael, a promising prospect in Milton Gastrin, and a first-round pick that was a big part of the reason that Mason McTavish is on the team now.
Fans who were loyal to Kyrou will get their chance to see him in a Washington Capitals uniform at the Enterprise Center in 2026-27. On November 28, expect a nice tribute to No. 25 to be played, and some tears to be shed.
Kyrou revenge tour incoming?
The Blues have to be extra careful next season, not only in the one game against the Capitals and Kyrou, but for his whole campaign. He was a 36-goal scorer two seasons ago, and the expectation is that now he will be the leading goal scorer in Washington in a solid top six.
No. 25 could prove to the Blues that he was worth holding onto, if given the right help.
With McMichael having a new deal and McTavish being brought in to also supplement the center depth, the expectation is that both of them can provide solid numbers next season and beyond. Reaching 36 goals is a tough mark to beat, but it is not out of the question for either of them if they adapt to the new system correctly.
Kyrou could step onto the ice on November 28 and completely destroy the Blues, inciting the worst possible scenario. Over the course of the season, this trade is going to be talked about a bunch, and only when the 84-game stretch comes to an end will we see a definitive winner.
