As if things could not get any worse for the St. Louis Blues, a new talent is joining the Central Divison and going to a team that is already poised to make the playoffs, the Minnesota Wild. Rumors are starting to circle that Vancouver Canucks star defenseman, and captain, Quinn Highes is being traded to the Wild.

Let's talk about the trade and how it impact the Blues.

Hughes joins the Central

My money was on the Hughes brothers reuniting in New Jersey, but it took a hard turn up north to the Mitten. The Wild gain Hughes, and subsequently bolster their chances at a chance to lift the Stanley Cup this season, and in the near future.

What it means for the Blues?

The road just got a lot tougher. This Central Division has arguably the makings of the best hockey team of all-time in the Colorado Avalanche, a very stacked Dallas Stars club, and now a championship roster in Minnesota with Hughes joining Kirill Kaprizov.

The Blues have to face a gauntlet to try and make it past three, four, or five teams in this division, and even then, they have to try and beat themselves too. This season has seen its fair share of turmoil and disappointment, but these next two games against the Wild on March 1 and April 13 are going to be a tough matchup.
