There's not been much to celebrate to start the season for the St. Louis Blues. The team's on a seven-game losing streak and sporting a 3-7-2 record, last in the Central Division and tied for last in the Western Conference. Bright spots have been few and far between, though Robert Thomas's return to the lineup tonight could be a small one.

Another bright spot? A future-forward power play that seems poised to make its debut tonight against the Edmonton Oilers.

Jimmy Snuggerud and the recently-called-up Dalibor Dvorsky are on the same power play unit--ostensibly the team's top unit, as it also features the now-healthy Robert Thomas, Pavel Buchnevich, and Justin Faulk running point.

The Blues' power play isn't terrible by any stretch, clicking at 23.5%, which is good enough for 11th in the NHL. That said, nothing else on the team is going right, and the man advantage could provide an opportunity for some of the young blood on the roster to develop a bit of chemistry in a less intense environment than at 5-on-5.

This new unit also speaks to a more forward-thinking approach from head coach Jim Montgomery. Instead of running a bunch of trusted, veteran players on the power play, he's turning to the rookies to try and give the team some juice. While we know Snuggerud can score in the NHL, Dvorsky is still looking for his first NHL point. They face the Edmonton Oilers tonight, who are no slouches, but we could witness Dvorsky's first point as an NHLer--maybe even his first goal--if the Blues get on the power play.
