This Blue was named the NHL's Third Star of the Week

A well-deserved nod, since he's looked unstoppable lately.

Don't look now, but the St. Louis Blues have a star in their midst--the NHL's Third Star of the Week, to be exact.

That's right, it's Jimmy Snuggerud! He's the Third Star after Alexis Lafreniere of the New York Rangers and Jake Oettinger of the Dallas Stars. Snuggerud has scored three goals, registered three assists, and a total of six points in four games, and was on fire even before receiving this recognition from the league at large. Together, him and Robert Thomas have found excellent chemistry, and Dylan Holloway's scoring has really come on late in the season as well.

The Blues are 7-2-1 since the Olympic break and, while it may throw a wrench in the organization's ability to get a premium draft pick, they've been playing strong, consistent hockey for what seems like the first time all season. Snuggerud's been a key factor in the turnaround, with five goals, six assists, and 11 points in those ten games since the Olympics; he's becoming the scoring winger the Blues so desperately need him to be.

It's been a tough season for Snuggerud, who missed nearly the entire month of December due to injury earlier this year: in 55 games, the rookie has tallied 15 goals and 20 assists, good for 35 points. The Blues as a whole have, of course, been underwhelming, which is why they sold two veterans at the deadline to kickstart the rebuild. Taking a step back is the right call right now, but the emergence of Snuggerud--and a bounce back for Thomas--should make the organization consider some new alternative options during the summer.

The Blues' next game is on the road against the Calgary Flames on Wednesday, and we're going to see if Snuggerud can keep up this torrid scoring pace.
