The St. Louis Blues are a storied franchise with a long history, and there are few records that could be considered attainable in the modern NHL. It's unlikely anyone will catch Bernie Federko's points record, or Brett Hull's 527 goals, but becoming a legend isn't always about being number one--it's about challenging the greats. Vladimir Tarasenko, for example, is fifth in franchise history in both goals and points, and will be a Blues icon forever.
He'd better watch his back, though, because Jimmy Snuggerud could challenge Tarasenko's goal totals--and then some. Snuggerud is an outstanding goal scorer, and he is going to rack them up at the NHL level once he makes the team full-time next season.
In his 644 games with the Blues, Tarasenko scored 262 goals, which is fifth all-time among Blues skaters. That's an impressive total, accomplished over 11 years with the franchise. Snuggerud, however, will be getting a head start on Tarasenko.
Tarasenko was 21 years old in his first season with the Blues and scored eight goals in 38 games; Snuggerud is poised to be a full-time member of the Blues next season as a 21-year-old. He already has one goal from seven games last year, and there will be plenty of opportunities for him to boost that total in his Calder-eligible season. A hot start to his career, and Snuggerud will be on track to challenge Tarasenko for his spot upon the Blues' Mount Rushmore of goal scorers.
It'll be a long journey for Snuggerud to score that many goals in a Blues sweater, but we are excited to watch the start of the career of another franchise legend in the making.
