The St. Louis Blues did not get their 2025-26 campaign off on the right foot, getting dismantled by the Minnesota Wild, 5-0, on opening night in their own barn. The Enterprise Center might have been rocking, but it was very short-lived.
Now, in the second game of the year, the Blues make their first trip to Canada to face off against the Calgary Flames on Saturday. This is going to be a rough-and-tough contest between two teams with a lot of history from last season. The Blues narrowly beat out the Flames for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
Let's look at three Blues players that are going to be a must see in this matchup.
Jimmy Snuggerud
It was a bad night for almost all of the Blues roster, but for Jimmy Snuggerud, it was really not a good night. He did not make much of an impact through the first two periods of the game as a part of the top line with Robert Thomas and Pavel Buchnevich, and it resulted in a swap with Jake Neighbours for the third period.
Snuggerud can make that bad performance go away with a good game against the Flames. It would make sense for head coach Jim Montgomery to give the young kid another shot at the top line, but there has to be a leash attached to it.
Jordan Binnington
Stop if you just read this before, goaltender Jordan Binnginton has to have a bounce-back game from his horrific performance against Minnesota. He was stellar in the preseason, and the momentum gained from that seemingly faded away after game one.
If this is a hard reset game for the Blues, Binnington has to be included in that. This team cannot win anything without its franchise goaltender.
Logan Mailloux
In his first game with the Blues, Logan Mailloux was good but not great. The third-line pairing of both Mailloux and Tyler Tucker was lackluster, and Matthew Kessel is waiting on the bench to sub in at any point.
The real twist in this story is that Mailloux is not only trying to prove himself to the Blues by being a good defenseman, but also by being better than the player he was traded for. Zack Bolduc is on fire in Montreal and taking the league by storm right now. Further putting the spotlight on Mailloux to excel.
If he can be a little bit better with each passing game, he will turn out alright. The up-and-comer has only played nine total games in the NHL.
