The St. Louis Blues, with their throwback third jerseys, took out one of the Central Division rivals on home ice. With a 3-1 win over the Dallas Stars, this team played its best game of the season in front of the Blue Note faithful.

It was a complete win, with superb performances from a number of Blues players. Here are three takeaways from the night.

Binnington clutched up

The Blues needed to have solid goaltending in order to beat a great Stars offense. Jordan Binnington was given the nod, and he made the absolute most of his time on the ice. With 18 saves, his defense stepped up just as much as he did.

After allowing five goals to the Minnesota Wild on opening night of the 2025-26 season, the short-term memory kicked in for Binnington. He was also a part of that eight-goal onslaught when the Blues hosted Chicago, and allowed a goal on eight shots. But, after all of that bad, he put on a masterclass against a top-five offensive unit in Dallas.

Defense stepped up big

With Logan Mailloux out and Matthew Kessel slotted in, the Blues defense was fantastic. There was so much coverage on the blueliners' abysmal performance against Chicago, and all of those doubts were pushed to the side with how well they played against Dallas.

Tyler Tucker was exceptional, as was the top pairing of Colten Parayko and Cam Fowler. Sure, Binnington stole the show, but the defense really stepped up.

Montgomery's line shuffle worked fantastically

There was so much uncertainity with Jim Montgomery's line "blendering", it was a risky move. At the end of it, it seemed like it worked out perfectly.

Jordan Kyrou and Jimmy Snuggerud benefited the most from their movement. With both scoring goals on the night, it is apparent that where they are right now is the perfect place for them to be.
