The St. Louis Blues, as well as the rest of the National Hockey League held their first day of training camp. The excitement is back for another great year of Blues hockey, and we at Bleedin' Blue are ecstatic about it.
With the first day already over with, and the second day of camp coming tomorrow, let's look at some takeaways from today's action and what could be on deck tomorrow. Remember, Saturday starts the preseason, with a Central Division bout against Dallas.
All eyes on Mailloux
In what was the most intriguing trade of the summer, defenseman Logan Mailloux comes over from Montreal for young gun Zack Bolduc. The Blues had some questionnable holes in their blueline, and filled it with an unproven talent that could turn heads.
On the first day of camp, Mailloux was on everyone's radar. That included General Manager Doug Armstrong, who is holding his final training camp as the head man in St. Louis.
Monty on Mailloux: "He was known as an offensive defenseman and I can see the shot ... I can see the instincts. But what was really impressive was the defensive stick. He got his stick on a lot of pucks, ended a lot of plays, killed plays. That was nice to see." #stlblues

This kid has a potential to be something great, and this preseason period will hopefully prove that.
Carbonneau, the sponge
Another young gun was amongst the highlights of the day. The first-round pick in this past Draft, Justin Carbonneau, was hovering around captain Brayden Schenn and was in the same group, group B, as one of the players he mirrors his game to, Jordan Kyrou.
A good sign from the first day of #stlblues training camp. 2025 first round pick Justin Carbonneau being coachable & spending time with veterans Colton Parayko & Bradyen Schenn. Carbonneau seems to be absorbing all the information he can during his first training camp. pic.twitter.com/bSpjPalW51

That is a great sign of things to come, as the team is already starting to rope him in. The leadership of this team is not going to instill wisdom in a lost cause. It has been a big rumor that Carbonneau could make the jump to the NHL at some point this season, much like Jimmy Snuggerud did last season once his season at the University of Minnesota wrapped up. Once the QMJHL starts to wind down, depending on what the Blues see from him at the Junior Hockey level, Armstrong could pull him out and plug him into the lineup at any time.
Hockey is back
The best takeaway from today's action is that Hockey is back. It has been a long summer, but there are only a few more days left until the puck drops on real hockey. This preseason will be a fun one for the Blues, as the roster has some movement left in it. Until opening night comes, this roster is not set in stone.
Dalibor Dvorsky, Otto Stenberg, and the aforementioned Mailloux have a legitimate chance to make the team out of camp. Where they fit in is the real question. Let us also not forget about Milan Lucic, who is on PTO and can also make some waves by making the team.
Buckle your seatbelts folks, this is gonna be fun.
