The idea of Dalibor Dvorsky not being a member of the St. Louis Blues is becoming more and more of a reality. Head coach Jim Montgomery transferred him over to the wing and moved Connor McMichael back into the center spot before the Nashville game.
The result was staggering, and not in the greatest of ways. Now, there are a couple of different scenarios in play for his future.
What do the Blues do with Dvorsky?
Season low 10:14 of ice time
Dvorsky was a non-factor for much of the game against the Predators. With only 10:14 of ice time, it was a pretty good indicator that he is not on Montgomery’s good side right now.
With four goals and an assist in 17 games this season, the point production is not where the Blues brass want him to be. He is on pace for a near 20-goal season, but he is also only on pace for 5 assists this season, for a total of 25 points.
It would be a step up from his rookie campaign, technically, but it is not anywhere near where he should be in his development.
Stay or go? Where?
With Detroit circling in on him with the rumored Simon Edvinsson deal in the works, Dvorsky is becoming more and more expendable. This is where the multiple scenarios come into play.
No. 15 could remain with the Blues, start to gain some traction with this current group, and win back his center spot on the third line. Or, he could be sent back down to Springfield and get top-line minutes to try and work on his overall game.
Then, there is the external option of Blues General Manager Alexander Steen attempting to complete the defensive core with Edvinsson. With the faltering play of Cam Fowler, a new face on the blue line alongside Logan Mailloux's upcoming return could be a quick fix.
The Blues shouldn't give up on Dvorsky just yet, but time is running out. He has shown those flashes of excellence, but in even more cases, he has shown inconsistencies in his game that are alarming.
A stint in Springfield could be the next step, but do not be surprised if that deal with Detroit goes through.
