The St. Louis Blues were unable to cap off their four-game road trip with a win, as they lost 3-1 to Nashville in a Saturday matinee. This was a tough pill to swallow and a reality check for this team via a brutal media session from head coach Jim Montgomery.

Needless to say, there are likely going to be some major changes incoming after this loss, which saw the Blues strike first yet again, but lose the game after the first intermission. This season has followed the same recipe of a strong start, horrific middle-frame, and 50-50 third periods.

Poor performance against Nashville

This final road game against Nashville was a rough one. Jimmy Snuggerud got the party started in Music City with a tough-angle one-time snipe on Predators goaltender Juuse Saros. For 18 of those first 20 minutes, the Blues were the much-better team, and it looked like they were going to fly right by this team that has been so hot lately.

But, after coming out of the locker room for the second period, whatever momentum they had stayed in there. The Blues were flat-footed, and the Predators took advantage by scoring a goal to go ahead 2-1. An empty-netter in the third was all she wrote.

Poor showing on the road

This was a similar issue on the road. The start of it was on Halloween in Detroit, when it was a monumental comeback over Detroit in the third period, winning 5-4. Both of the contests against the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils were tough losses, with a goal differential of one Blues goal and four goals scored by the opponent between the two games in the second period. That is a huge swing.

The Blues were a so-so team on the road last season, posting a record of 17-19-5. This season seems to be following the same trend, as they are 3-5-1 in the early going. For the rest of this season, they have to make it a point of emphasis to play better on the road, or their hopeful year could be dead in the water.

Have to secure home ice over next few weeks

But, there is one more way to save the year. Win at home.

The Blues have 11 of their next 14 games at the Enterprise Center, as Thanksgiving is coming up. They will do battle against some Central Division rivals like Dallas, Chicago, and Nashville again. As well as their first meeting against the second meeting against the Colorado Avalanche.

That is a lot of ground they can cover in the Central, at a pivotal part of the season.
