What does it mean to wear the “Note”and what does it mean to be a Blue?

The St. Louis Blues organization is undergoing a period of change–positive change. Aside from team acquisitions, coaching change, and late-season success, something much bigger is upon us.
As Bleedin’ Blue recently reported, it seems the St. Louis Blues are undergoing a rebrand.

The last time the logo underwent a significant change was in 1998 when the red outlining and phrase “St. Louis” were removed. Since then, the note has changed multiple times, but all changes have been minor, so as we go through another change, let’s look at what being a Blue means.

Community

In 2023, when addressing the media about the succession plan, Alex Steen noted that the logo represented “connection” to him. He then expressed his gratitude for the many people in the city who have helped him and his family.

Steen indicated that the strong community bonds have made it easy for him to make St. Louis his home.

Loyalty

Jim Montgomery’s first interview in November 2024, after being hired as the new head coach, began with this statement: “Once a blue, always a blue.” Whether it’s Vladimir Tarasenko, David Perron, or Craig Berube, they’ve all represented the Note, and everyone knows a Blue when they see one.

So, when the “hometown hero,” Pat Maroon, played his final game in St. Louis as a Chicago Blackhawk, it was no wonder that he was named the first star.

Legacy

At the beginning of the interview, Monty emphasized the significance of “people” or relationships, and he spoke for several minutes about his appreciation for the Blues organization and their shared commitment to fostering those relationships.

Later in the video, he shared that his goal was to help the team return to being a “blue-collar team.” Monty then pointed out several Blues players who have retired and stayed in St. Louis, which is part of the city's culture.

Resiliency

NHL Network gave an analysis of the St. Louis Blues in April 2025, in which the host Mike Rupp had this to say about the team, “I would not want to play this team.” Considering that just months prior, the team had been plagued by numerous trade rumors due to its poor play, it demonstrates how resilient the team was.

So, a Blue always fights to the end, no matter what the cost, leaving a mark that will never be forgotten.

What does it mean to you?
