Going into the 2026 NHL Draft, the St. Louis Blues have two picks in the first 15 selections, followed by a pick without a number yet, as it belongs to the Colorado Avalanche. At No. 11 and No. 15, there are a lot of options here.
But, what is the biggest priority for the Blues, should they keep the picks and draft players? Of course, they can go ahead and trade them both for an established player, but what if they keep them?
Where does this Blues team need the most help?
Down the middle?
Behind Robert Thomas, Dalibor Dvorsky, and Pius Suter, the centerman position is a little foggy in terms of prospects. This is where the draft could really help, as Jack Finley can take the duties until the "new guy" comes up the pipeline next season.
This is where Viggo Bjorck, or even Brooks Rogowskim come into play. Both are completely different kinds of players, but both fit the Blues mold quite well.
On the blue line?
The Blues have a lot of uncertainity on the blue line. Logan Mailloux, who was abysmal last season, is on thin ice after a bit of a resurgence at the end of 2025-26. Cam Fowler and Colton Parayko are on a steady decline after the worst seasons of their career last season.
This means that if possible, the Blues have to be thinking of a top defenseman. Chase Reid and Carson Carels may not be available at No. 11, but Keaton Verheoff might be. Philip Broberg is going to need some help, as he cannot man this unit alone.
Final answer
To give a definitive answer on where the Blues should look for the most help, it is really hard. Out of the two areas described above, the defense needs a lot more help than the center position.
As this team continues to rely on the younger players, so too will new General Manager Alexander Steen and this revamped blue line. The defensive group is going to be going through some serious changes in personnel, either this offseason or next. They can get that process started now, with a top-tier d-man to get the retool rolling.
