There will be a ton of questions going into the offseason for the Blues. With how badly the Blues played this season, they are going to have to figure out what direction to take the roster. One of the biggest decisions they have to make is about what to do with their restricted free agents. They have three players currently set to become restricted free agents this summer. The Blues need to determine whether these players will be part of the team's long-term future.

One of the players that the Blues will have to make a decision about is Dylan Holloway. His two-year deal is set to expire, and he will be an RFA in the summer. Holloway discussed his uncertain future during the locker cleanout day. He talked about how happy he was to be with the Blues and that he would be open to a long-term extension. With how well Holloway has performed with the Blues, they should make him a big part of their future plans.

What could a Dylan Holloway extension look like

When the Blues first signed Holloway as a restricted free agent, it was a bit of a risk. However, it has paid off nicely for the Blues. In his 136 games for the Blues, he has 48 goals and 66 assists for 114 points. This season, he was one of the Blues' best offensive producers. In 59 games, he recorded 22 goals and 29 assists for 51 points. All of these ranked in the top three for the Blues. His advanced metrics were decent, with 50.27 SF%, 53.16 SCF%, and 52.86 xG% according to Natural Stat Trick.

This is a perfect player for the Blues to build around. He's the type of player that every team really wants to have. He proved this season that he can be a consistent 50-60 point player who will be a fixture on the Blues' top line. He was also able to produce these numbers despite inconsistent power-play time. Normally, strong offensive production coincides with power-play time. If he is given time on either power play unit, Holloway can easily add another 10-15 points.

He's also only 24 years old, meaning there is still room for him to grow as a player. There is still time for him to develop physically and become stronger. This will allow him to become a more physical player and increase his versatility. He can be a strong point producer while also playing a shutdown role and providing some physicality. This versatility will only make him more valuable for the Blues and give them a player who will thrive in any situation.

What would a contract extension for Holloway look like? The smart move for the Blues would be to lock him up long-term. Sure, a bridge deal is an option, but it will cause the Blues to have to give him a bigger payday in a few years. It's best to give him a five to seven-year deal and make him a foundational piece of the roster. He will likely get around six million annually, giving the Blues a good piece at a relatively team-friendly price.

The decision surrounding Holloway should be simple, as the Blues need to lock him up long-term. This will give the Blues a piece that they can build their roster around.
