The St. Louis Blues, once again, could not get themselves to that three-game win streak. They had a very good chance against the New York Rangers, but were unable to beat Dylan Garand and company, losing 3-1.
Now, it is across the Hudson River to Newark, as they face the New Jersey Devils. This Metropolitan Division road trip with these two teams is starting to tell an ugly story about this Blues team.
Hopefully, they can get back in the win column, and these four players will help get them there. Let's go over it.
Robert Thomas
Robert Thomas has to be this offense's spark plug. And this is a great chance to do so, as he goes toe-to-toe with Devils captain Nico Hischier.
Thomas has had some success against the Devils, with six goals and six assists for 12 points in 13 games. Lock him down to make an impact in this game, and it could be a goal against former Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck.
Jimmy Snuggerud
Speaking of goals against Hellebuyck, Jimmy Snuggerud really enjoys doing that. If you remember, he got two on the Jets franchise goaltender in his first few games of NHL action back in the first round of the 2024-25 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Snuggerud has grown a lot more since then, and he is leading the charge now in St. Louis with eight goals on the season. Can he grab multiple goals in a single game for the first time all year?
Pius Suter
The only player able to get past Garand in the 3-1 loss to the Rangers was Pius Suter. It was in garbage time, and it saved the Blues from an embarrassing shutout loss to the rookie goaltender, but a goal is a goal.
Suter now has four of those on the year, and matches it with four assists from his fourth-line role. The Devils power-play is only operating at 19.1% this season, which is 21st in the NHL, but Suter cannot let Jack Hughes get hot in that situation.
Jordan Binnington
It is not known who will be in the net for this game against the Devils. But, if you are a sports romantic like myself, who believes that storylines have a place in decision-making, a Jordan Binnington and Hellebuyck rematch from the Olympics might be the call here.
Binnington has had a rough start to the year, but with only four starts through 15 games, he might have to go for game No. 16.
