On the day of the 2026 NHL Draft, the St. Louis Blues are preparing for a historic night. With four picks in 29 selections, there is a lot of fireworks about to set off in the first round.

There could be some movement for some core pieces as well. With the trade of Jordan Kyrou to Washington a few days ago, and then Colton Parayko becoming untouchable, all signs were pointing at the winningest goalie in franchise history.

Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic went into some detail on this eariler today, proclaiming that Binnington is now staying put. Even with suitors like Florida and Edmonton that are very desperate for a goaltender, there is not enough coming back around for Blues General Manager Doug Armstrong to entertain the idea.

One final run for Binner

If these rumors are true, and Binnington is going to be a part of the Blues next season, that means that the goaltending pipeline is staying stagnant for 2026-27. Will Cranley, Zadim Zherenko, and Georgii Romanov will be the trio in Springfield. Do not count out an appearance from Love Harenstam next season either.

Binnington might not be the starter next season, as that honor has been unofficially passed to Joel Hofer. In what was one of the best-kept secrets in the Western Conference in the 2024-25 season, Binnington was not able to keep up with Hofer last season.

If there is one thing to remember about this, is to not doubt No. 50. The hope is that the debacle of 2025-26 was a one-off, and that this upcoming year will be much better. Binnington has always shined brightest when his back was against the wall, and 2025-26 is that exact scenario.

It is time to put up or shut up for Binnington, as this is his last chance to either win over Alexander Steen as he enters the GM role, or attract the attention of another playoff-seeking team that need a goaltender following the upcoming 84-game gauntlet.
