The Blues would lose more than they would gain in a Kyrou trade

The winger's value could not be lower.

We got news yesterday that St. Louis Blues winger Jordan Kyrou underwent successful knee surgery, and is expected to be ready for training camp at the start of the 2026-27 season. Kyrou had a lackluster 2025-26 season, scoring fewer than 20 goals for the first time since the covid-shortened 2020-21 campaign; this surgery points to an injury being the culprit for his disappointing performance, though it may not entirely squash the trade rumors that've been following the winger around for quite some time.

If the Blues decided to pull the trigger on a deal involving Kyrou this summer, they would almost assuredly be judged the losers--and it could have disastrous long term impacts on the franchise.

Whatever retool or rebuild phase the Blues are entering now, their focus should be on one thing: acquiring premium future assets, be it high draft picks or promising prospects. If they decided to move Kyrou now, after a poor season of play and surgery that could limit his offseason training, they would be selling him at his lowest possible value. Add in Kyrou's full no-trade protections, effectively giving him complete control over his destination, and there's no chance the Blues recoup the value a top-line winger should net them.

Kyrou is about to turn 28 years old, and is still very much in his prime. The Blues finished the season strong, though it was too little too late to make a playoff push (though maybe that's a good thing, as we watch the LA Kings get crushed by the Colorado Avalanche). It's possible the Blues could use their recently acquired draft picks to retool the team and contend sooner than later, if Alex Steen starts his tenure with a bang. If things go well, keeping Kyrou--and not selling him off as a depressed asset--will be the right decision.
